Even if all you were able to do was to send me a dollar - be it as a thank you, or in a time of urgency - that’s still totally fine. I value honest intent deeply.
I had been planning this for a long time and finally had the headspace to collate the list and email everyone individually. And I know most of the people on that list.
Considering the minimum threshold of 750 K individuals who have accessed my work over the past decade, this is still far less than 1% - in fact, it’s closer to 0.05%.
People do need to step up. They need to stop being passive consumers and learn to value work that supports them by making it sustainable for the service provider to keep doing. That is how community is supposed to work.
Nevertheless, I am deeply grateful for those who had the courtesy, ability, and heart to do something. (And also a shout-out to people who have just hung out because it was the human thing to do).
I remember thousands of your names and your stories. Because I’ve spent that much time building community with so many of you.
Let’s hope people wake up and remember to be human.
